Read Aloud Chapter Books
Research and experience have validated the importance of reading aloud to your students. One benefit is that students can experience a book that is written at a higher level than their independent reading level. Another benefit is that we use our shared reading to discuss elements of literature and for writing lessons. I think of it as a book club with the whole class!
Since I am reading to a range of 6-9 year olds with differing maturity levels, choosing an appropriate chapter book can be a little challenging. I'm always on the lookout for a great read aloud chapter book! Here are some that our class loved. Please comment with any books that your class has enjoyed and I'll add them to the list!
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
The Secret of Zoom by Lynne Jonell
Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
